Boiled green moong dal salad recipe | green mung bean salad | green gram salad recipe with detailed step-by-step photos.
This salad includes my favorite veggies and boiled green gram, also known as green mung bean. I have also added semi-raw mango for the sour flavor. If the mango is not available, you can sprinkle some dry mango powder (amchoor/amchur powder).
In Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, whole green mung beans called pachai payaru (பச்சை பயறு) in Tamil, cherupayar in Malayalam, pesalu in Telugu, hesaru kaalu in Kannada, mūṅg in Hindi.
The yellowish tint of semi-raw mango gives a beautiful color to the green gram salad, a feast for the eyes. Yes, cooking is an art, and I love to show my creativity in presenting the food. In fact, feed your kids in this way to make them eat raw vegetables and fruits; I'm sure these tricks will definitely work out.
So, the veggies in this salad are completely optional; you can add any kind of veggies like broccoli, arugula, green olives, kale, spinach, zucchini, green onion, red onion, mint leaves, green & purple cabbage, basil leaves, colored bell peppers/capsicum, watercress, Brussels sprouts, french green beans, asparagus, artichoke, celery, romaine leaves, green peas, sugar snap, and okra, etc.
Besides, I have added boiled whole green mung bean to this salad. Mung beans are nutritious, delicious, and versatile, it can be enjoyed in many ways, such as salads, soups, curries, pesaratu (dosa), laddu, payasam, sweet and savory sundal. You can add boiled mung beans or sprouted mung beans as well.
As a vegetarian, I love to consume raw vegetables and fruits, so salads take up the major portion of my plate. In addition, legumes, vegetables, fruits, and nuts are alkaline in nature, which are important to balance the pH levels in our bodies. Alright, now let's get into the green gram salad recipe.

Ingredients:
Green leaf lettuce - 3 leaves
Green raw /semi-raw mango - 1
Avocado - 1
Cucumber - 1
Green or Red onion - 1 small
Green mung beans - 1/2 cup boiled
Cilantro - 4 sprigs
Lemon - half

Salad Dressing:
1. Olive oil - 1 tbsp
2. Crushed pepper - 1 tsp
3. Salt - As per taste

1. Soak the raw whole green mung bean for 12 hours or overnight. Then, take a small pan, add the soaked beans, required salt, and little water. (Note - Mung beans will release water while cooking, so add approximately 2 tbsp water for 1 cup of soaked beans).
2. Cover it with a lid and let it cook for 10 mins on a low medium flame. Keep stirring in between and turn off the flame once it is boiled. (Note - Make sure the beans are not overcooked or mushy. Cooking time varies; it totally depends on the quality of mung beans).
How to make green moong dal salad:
1. Take a large salad bowl. Combine the chopped veggies, cilantro, and boiled beans.
